Testosterone

Testosterone is the hormone that supports muscle, recovery, mood, and sex drive in men. Healthy levels are part of what makes the work in the gym actually show up on the body.

In the lean context, T directly drives muscle protein synthesis and recovery. Higher T means lifts come back faster, sets feel cleaner, and the muscle the work earns actually sticks. Lower T means the work happens but the build doesn't follow. T also drives the daily energy that makes hitting the rest of the habits feel doable instead of like a fight.

T is highly responsive to lifestyle. Sleep, training, sun, and a healthy weight all support it. Alcohol, chronic stress, and short sleep work against it. The lever is large, and most of it is in the reader's control.

What raises it

  • Strength training. Lifting is the most direct training-based driver of T.
  • Sleeping. T peaks during deep sleep. A drop from 8 to 5 hours of sleep cuts T by 10 to 15 percent within a week in healthy young men.
  • Sun exposure. Healthy vitamin D from daylight supports the hormonal baseline that holds T in range.

What lowers it

  • Alcohol. Acute drinking lowers T for hours. Heavy or frequent drinking lowers baseline T over time.
